Machher Jhal


Ingredients
  • Fish(2-3 pieces) you can take any fish
  • Onion sliced(1/2 cup)
  • Tomato chopped (1/4 cup)
  • Garlic crushed(1tsp)
  • Green chili(1-2)
  • Panch phoron(1/2 tsp)(Its a mixture of Kalonji,cumin, fenugreek,fennel and carom seeds)
  • Black/white Mustard seeds paste (2tbsp) (white mustard seeds tastes good)
  • Turmeric powder(2tsp)
  • Red chili powder(1tsp)
  • Mustard oil as needed
  • Salt to taste
  • Water for gravy
Preparation

  1. Wash the fish and marinate with salt and turmeric powder.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, fry the fish till the both sides becomes golden brown. take out in a plate and keep aside.
  3. now using the same oil in the pan, add panch phoron, onion,when onion becomes golden add chopped tomato.
  4. Now add turmeric, red chili,salt and 1 cup of water.
  5. When water starts boiling then add mustard seeds paste.Boil for 2-3 min.
  6. Now add fried fish and green chili.Cook another 2-3 min.(adjust your gravy by adding water.)
  7. Now your Machher Jhal is ready.Serve hot with Rice.
